Translation Department Students Conduct English Language Awareness Activity at Games Center in Erbil
Second-stage students from the Department of Translation at Cihan University–Erbil—Abdulmhemn Helal Muki, Mohammed Amer Mohammed, and Tareq Zeyad Tareq—conducted an English language awareness activity at the Next Level Games Center in Erbil on February 8, 2026, emphasizing the importance of learning multiple languages, particularly English, through online gaming.
The activity was organized under the supervision of their Morphology course lecturer, Zeena Mahmmod, to raise public awareness of how online games can serve as effective tools for English language learning, particularly in developing vocabulary and translation skills across languages.
During the session, the students explained to the players how new English vocabulary can be acquired while playing online games and how in-game instructions can be used to practise translation step by step. Practical strategies were introduced to help players turn everyday gaming experiences into meaningful language-learning opportunities.
To put these strategies into practice, players were asked to apply the introduced methods during gameplay in the presence of the students. As the players practised, the students carefully observed each step, provided constructive feedback, and guided them to improve their performance. The students also answered all questions raised by the players, creating an interactive and supportive learning environment.
At the end of the activity, the students invited the players to share their thoughts by comparing their prior knowledge with the new insights gained from the session. The players expressed their satisfaction and appreciation, noting that the activity enhanced their awareness of language learning and showed them how to benefit effectively from online games.
