Workshop on the Independence of Kurdistan at Cihan University – Erbil
The Department of International and Diplomatic Relations at Cihan University-Erbil organized a workshop for a student from the Faculty of Political Science and Security Studies at Nicholas Copernicus University in Poland.
The workshop was held on Wednesday (25/5/2022) entitled (Future prospects for the Kurdish issue in the Middle East) in the VIP hall at the university in the presence of the president of the university and faculty of the scientific departments. The PHD. student Adrianna Czarnecka presented a lecture entitled (Independence of the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan).
The international workshop was attended by a number of professors from Cihan University – Erbil. At the beginning of the lecture Adrianna presented her research paper entitled (Kurdish Independence Capital in the Middle East) during which she talked about the legal paths of independence in international relations and the political, social, and economic situation of greater Kurdistan between Iran, Turkey, Iraq, and Syria, then she talked about the historical attempts to establish the Kurdish state and the right to have self-determination. She concluded her lecture by tackling the constitutional and legal status of the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the challenges it faces in light of international, regional, and internal changes and the future status of the region in Iraq and the region.
In the second research paper, Dr. Khalil Ismail Muhammad, from Cihan University, presented his research paper entitled (The Roles of Regional Countries Affecting the Kurdish Issue), during which he reviewed the political developments in the Middle East region after World War I and the conflicts that the region witnessed between major and regional powers and its reflection in the distribution of Kurdish nationalism to four countries.
He also reviewed the history of the Kurdish movements that worked for liberation and the establishment of an independent political entity, similar to the peoples of the region. Prof. Dr. Khalil Ismail Muhammad concluded his lecture with the challenges facing the people of Kurdistan in the Middle East and the future possibilities for the experience of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq after the independence referendum in 2017.
At the end of the workshop, a discussion was opened and the conclusions and recommendations reached by the workshop were presented.
