A Scientific Activity on Using Library Resources to Conduct a Scientific Research

On Wednesday and Thursday, March 3-4, 2021, a scientific activity on “How to benefit from library resources to conduct a scientific research” was held in the library of Cihan University – Erbil for third level students of Computer Science Department.

     This activity, which was held under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Jafar Ismail, aimed at addressing the main elements of a scientific research and the main techniques for doing a scientific research.

     During this activity, Assistant Professor Dr. Reem focused on the importance of finding most suitable references for writing literature review of a research paper. Additionally, Dr. Reem explained that how students can use the knowledge from previous works to improve the scientific quality of their own research paper.

     As part of the activity, students asked their questions about how to search for references relevant to the topic of their research in the library.

     At the end of this scientific visit and in order to make students familiar with the way of searching for suitable books to be used as a reference for a specific topic, a topic was selected and students in different groups tried to find related books to that topic in the library. Then, each group shared the result of their searching with other groups.

     Discussing the efficient methods of finding good research topic by analyzing gaps in the previous works was another part of this activity.
