Biomedical Sciences Department Students Raise Breast Cancer Awareness at Lozan Private School

On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, fourth-year students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University–Erbil went to Lozan Private School to deliver an educational seminar on breast cancer awareness. The activity was conducted under the supervision of A.L. Hero Ismael Mohammed.

Upon their arrival, the students were received by Mrs. Ashna Hamid, Vice Principal for Student Affairs. The seminar was held in the school hall and attended by Stage 12 pupils. During the seminar, Sundus Hewa Qarani introduced the topic by explaining the concept of cancer and breast cancer, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis in improving treatment outcomes.

The next presenter, Rahma Dlshad Abdulhadi, clarified that not all tumours are cancerous and that breast cancer can affect males as well as females. She also discussed the major factors associated with breast cancer, including genetic inheritance, lifestyle, and hormonal changes.

Also, Khawla Hashim Aziz emphasized the importance of early detection, explaining that many cases of breast cancer can be treated successfully when diagnosed at an early stage. She also demonstrated the steps of breast self-examination and explained its role in raising awareness of changes that may require medical evaluation.

At the end of the seminar, the students distributed informative brochures and gifts to the pupils. Mrs. Ashna expressed her appreciation for the students’ visit and their efforts to promote health awareness among school students.
