Biomedical Sciences Students Conduct Practical Session at DLBA Dairy Factory
On Sunday, October 10, 2024, third-year students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University participated in an educational visit to DLBA Dairy Factory, which specializes in the production of yogurt and ice cream. This visit was an integral part of their Food and Industrial Microbiology course and was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omar.
The students received a warm welcome from Mr. Alan Sirwan Omar, Head of Human Resources at DLBA Dairy Factory, who facilitated a comprehensive tour of the facility. The visit began with an exploration of the factory’s quality control department, where students observed the meticulous standards and procedures involved in assessing product quality. They also toured the microbiology and chemistry laboratories, learning about essential inspection processes conducted before and after production. In particular, they examined methods for measuring total solid content, a key quality parameter in dairy products.
Equipped with protective gear and adhering to hygiene protocols, the students proceeded to the pasteurization and production rooms. Here, factory staff provided in-depth explanations of the pasteurization processes crucial for maintaining product safety and quality. The students later visited the storage and refrigeration departments, gaining insights into the warehousing and cold storage practices that ensure product longevity.
Assistant Lecturer Bakhtawar Ziad Omar concluded the visit by expressing gratitude on behalf of Cihan University and the Department of Biomedical Sciences to the DLBA Dairy Factory management. This hands-on experience, made possible through the factory’s support, offered students valuable field-based learning that significantly enhanced their understanding of microbiological and industrial practices in dairy production.
