Cihan University – Erbil Commemorates the 126th Anniversary of the Kurdish Press Day
Under the esteemed patronage of Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalwi, President of Cihan University – Erbil, the Department of Media organized ceremonies honoring the 126th anniversary of Kurdish Press Day. This significant event is honored by media and academic institutions worldwide, observed annually on April 22nd. It marks the inception of the first pink newspaper by Miqdad Badrakhan in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on April 22nd, 1898. This pivotal moment stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Kurdish press, representing a profound chapter in the history of the Kurdish people.
On this occasion, the Department of Media at Cihan University – Erbil organized a special ceremony in the presence of Dr. Abdul Sattar Karim Saeed, Assistant President for Administrative and Student Affairs, along with faculty members and students from different academic levels in the Media Department at the VIP Hall. The ceremony commenced with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs of Kurdistan, accompanied by the playing of the Kurdish national anthem. Following this, a film depicting the history of the Kurdish press, prepared by students Sarkar Hussein and Kahraman Johar from the first stage, was screened. Subsequently, a series of documentary films, prepared by fourth-stage students Karwan Massoud, Naali Omar, Manar Sabah, Sarwin Muhammad Amin, and Shahan Anwar, were showcased. Additionally, a documentary film produced by the staff of Cihan Channel and Radio, highlighting the achievements and contributions of all students from the Media Department in the field of media, radio, and television work, was presented.
Students from the second-stage presented a shield of gratitude to the Presidency of Cihan University – Erbil for its continuous support to the Media Department and its students, along with shields of appreciation to all faculty members in the Media Department. Towards the conclusion of the ceremony, certificates of appreciation were distributed to students of the Media Department who made significant contributions to media work during the academic year 2023-2024. Finally, a media exhibition was inaugurated, showcasing the students’ works, including press photos, newspaper designs, and various advertisements from different academic levels.
