Cihan University-Erbil held a workshop about the decisions of the Supreme Federal Court
To discuss the decisions of the Iraqi Federal Court and to analyze the different aspects of these decisions, the Law Department’s leadership at Cihan University Erbil launched a two-day workshop entitled “Constitutional Evaluation of the Decisions of the Supreme Federal Court”.
In this context, on the first day of the workshop, which was held on Wednesday (9/3/2022) at the University’s VIP Hall in the presence of Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Dalo, President of Cihan University Erbil and assistant university president, lecturers, and, experts in the field of law and constitution began, at first Dr. Omar Zuber Zahir, head of the law department, delivered a speech, after welcoming the attendees to explain the purpose of the workshop and said: Through this workshop, our section seeks to focus on the constitutional aspects of the federal court’s decision, the mechanisms for implementing the court’s find outs, and the independent level of the federal court in issuing decisions, for which the head of the law section read the agenda of the workshop and then presented some topics.
Assistant lecturer Ismail Rasul Babakir presented the first topic of the workshop entitled “Expertise and Duties of the Federal Court”, in which he discussed the quality and principles of formation. The federal court explained that the federal court’s duties, which include (9) decisive decisions to resolve problems between different institutions, set several examples.
In another part of the workshop, assistant professor Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Samarai presented a topic about the federal court’s decisions regarding the parliament’s leadership and the appointment of the majority bloc and discussed several legal explanations about the issue and the environment for issuing these decisions.
The legality of the oil contracts in the Kurdistan Region was another topic of the first day of the workshop that was presented by Dr. Omar Zuber Zahir. He discussed the article of the constitution, the regional authorities, the federal government, and the natural resources provisions, such as the disapproval and absence of oil and gas laws in Iraq, which were considered a significant law problem.
After presenting the topics separately, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Dalo, president of Cihan University Erbil, and attendees of the workshop directed many subjects, legal and constitutional questions, and questions to the presenters. The questions were answered from a legal perspective, and on the second day of the workshop, separate parts of the Supreme Federal Court of Iraq will be read in other dimensions.
