Cihan University-Erbil Students Explore Military History at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw
In conjunction with their academic exchange semester at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) in Poland, a group of students from Cihan University-Erbil conducted a scientific and cultural visit to the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
During the excursion, the students toured various museum galleries, gaining firsthand insight into Poland’s historical heritage and its significant political and military transformations. The museum features an extensive collection of rare artifacts, ranging from cold weapons and firearms to military flags and uniforms from different historical eras. The outdoor exhibit also showcases heavy military hardware, including tanks, combat aircraft, artillery, and missile systems. This diverse infrastructure served as a field platform for the students to understand the evolution of military technology and the methods through which nations defend their identity and sovereignty.
The participating students included Kosrat Azad Khidir and Rawa Abdulsattar Jabbar (2nd-year students, Department of Medical Microbiology); Hevar Hazhar Mohammed (3rd-year student, Department of Biomedical Sciences). from Cihan University-Erbil. The visit allowed them to examine rare historical items and documented archives narrating the sacrifices of the Polish people and the advancement of defense technologies, thereby deepening their appreciation for the country’s civilizational standing.
The Polish Army Museum (Muzeum Wojska Polskiego), established in 1920, is the second largest museum in Warsaw and the largest military repository in Poland, housing over 300,000 historical pieces. The museum is scientifically categorized into specialized modules, including the 10th-18th Century Module, the 19th Century Module, the 20th Century Module, and “The Orient” gallery, alongside temporary exhibition spaces. It offers visitors a comprehensive panoramic view of a thousand years of Polish defense and military history.
