Community Health Nursing Students Deliver First Aid Awareness Seminar at Target High School
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, as part of the community engagement activities organized by the Department of Community Health Nursing at Cihan University–Erbil, a group of third-stage nursing students conducted an educational awareness visit to Target High School. The visit aimed to enhance students’ awareness of basic first aid principles and to promote health and safety within the school community.
The student team was warmly received by the school principal, Mr. Hoshyar Bradosti, prior to the seminar. The awareness session was delivered by Fatima Azad Mustafa and Lavin Rabar Abdullah, who focused on essential first aid knowledge and emergency response skills relevant to the school setting.
During the session, Fatima Azad Mustafa explained the fundamental concepts of basic first aid, including initial assessment, ensuring scene safety, and recognizing emergency situations that require immediate intervention. She also discussed the proper management of burn injuries, minor wounds, bleeding, and nosebleeds, highlighting appropriate first aid measures and correcting common misconceptions. Emphasis was placed on evidence-based practices, personal safety, and the importance of seeking professional medical care when necessary.
Lavin Rabar Abdullah focused on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other emergency response skills. She explained the significance of CPR in life-threatening situations and addressed the management of choking, fainting, and unconsciousness. Practical demonstrations were provided on proper chest compressions, artificial respiration, and basic airway management to enhance students’ understanding and confidence in responding effectively to emergencies.
At the conclusion of the visit, the school administration expressed appreciation to the students of Cihan University–Erbil for organizing the awareness seminar. They commended the relevance and practicality of the topics presented and acknowledged the positive impact of the session on students’ health awareness and emergency preparedness. The administration also expressed interest in strengthening future cooperation with the university through similar educational and community-based initiatives.
