DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING ORGANIZED A SITE TOUR TO HAWLER CITADEL (QALAT) FOR SECOND-STAGE STUDENTS
On 6 November 2022 (Sunday), the Department of Architectural Engineering organized a site tour to Hawler Citadel (Qalat) for second-stage students under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ms. Frishta M. Abdullah to connect students’ classroom learning to real world.
The purpose of the tour was providing the students with an opportunity to visit a historical site and integrate new perspective on how to preserve ancient places. The students were asked to visit the place and find construction failure around the Citadel and offer their own solution to solve those problems. The students had studied and discussed about urban planning and preserving historical places in planning cities before they visited an actual site. They were expected to talk about the problems and their solutions in English for their Technical English Course.
Meanwhile, the students were informed to visit two ancient houses belonging to the king and a ruler of a very longtime ago. They inspected the building materials and gave their own suggestion to renew and save historic buildings. To this purpose, an archaeologist, who studies and analysis the citadel artifacts, explained to the group whatever they have done through the past years to keep the remains.
The tour took about 3 hours, sufficient time for students to inspect different places and take photos of the sites for their classroom activity.
