Department of Biomedical Sciences: A Series of Talks in Conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Globally, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women and October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM). In conjunction with BCAM 2022, the Biomedical Sciences Department of Cihan University – Erbil organized an interesting outdoor activity involving a group of its second and third-stage students under the supervision of Assistant Lecturers Ms. Zeena Mahmood and Mr. Mohammed M. Hussein.
The activity, which took place in Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil on 30 October 2022 (Sunday), involved the students giving a series of talks, especially on breast cancer including other important medical topics such as skin cancer, thalassemia, heart attack, mental stress, and Alzheimer’s disease. With the aim of increasing public awareness of breast cancer in addition to the aforementioned medical issues, this activity was open to a multicultural society of Erbil of all ages.
All students, with their formal attire and a lab coat worn on this day, were eager to deliver their talk to the public. Their outstanding, creative, and informative talks attracted the attention of a number of people. All talks, which were delivered in three languages, namely Kurdish, Arabic, and English, were followed by a question-answer session where the public was given the opportunity to pose any questions they have about the topics presented to them. Each talk ended with a ‘Thank You’ message by the public for the useful information they obtained this day. The activity has certainly succeeded in raising public awareness of the issues!
