Department of Law Raises Awareness on Women’s Rights and Legal Protections
On Tuesday, February 12, 2025, in celebration of International Women’s Day in Science, first-year Law students Ahmed Mustafa and Sonia Hiwa conducted an awareness session at Binai Preparatory School for Girls. The session focused on women’s rights and legal protections against workplace violence.
Welcomed by the school’s assistant principal, Ms. Lana, the event was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Saman Hassan Ali. The session introduced key human rights concepts, examined the causes and prevalence of violence against women, and discussed legal measures enacted by the Kurdistan Parliament to combat such violence.
The discussion also emphasized women’s rights in Islam, highlighting their significance and the need for protection. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, allowing students to engage in meaningful dialogue on the topic.
As part of a series of activities for Human Rights course students, the initiative aimed to develop advocacy skills and promote legal awareness. Supervisor Saman Hassan Ali stressed its importance, while Ahmed and Sonia highlighted the value of community engagement in advancing human rights.
The school administration and students expressed their appreciation for the session, recognizing its role in raising awareness and fostering a deeper understanding of women’s rights.
