DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY: A WRITING ACTIVITY

On 5 October 2022 (Wednesday), a writing activity on library etiquette was held at Cihan University-Erbil involving a group of second-year students under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ms. Marwa Mahmood. On this day, Ms. Marwa asked the students to form into several groups and began brainstorming some ideas on the Do’s and Don’ts at the library.

Based on the brainstorming activity, the students’ consensus on the Do’s included;
the students were instructed to put their bags in the designated areas, to keep quiet in the library, to practice reading books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials, and to put them back in their original place. After this activity, the students were asked to turn their brainstormed ideas into their first draft of writing.

For the Don’ts, the consensus of students included; the students are not encouraged to reserve seats or tables for another student or to ask other students to stand up and leave the library. Students are also instructed not to eat, drink or sleep in the library. Additionally, students are advised not to relocate books, newspapers, or periodicals from the library without permission from the librarian. The students were later notified to turn the ideas they brainstormed into the second draft of writing.

The students found that the brainstorming activity helped them write their first and second drafts.
