Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Students Gain Clinical Learning Experience at Nutrition Clinic
On Thursday, February 6, 2025, students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on clinical learning session at a nutrition clinic, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein.
The visit began with a warm welcome from Dr. Harez Yasin, a nutrition specialist, who provided an overview of the clinic and its services. The students were introduced to key aspects of clinical nutrition, including various nutritional assessments and patient consultations. Among the activities, students learned how to measure Body Mass Index (BMI), analyze Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), evaluate body composition, and provide dietary counseling to patients.
In addition to these practical assessments, the students were introduced to the critical role that clinical nutritionists play in managing conditions such as metabolic disorders, obesity, and nutritional deficiencies. Dr. Yasin and the clinic staff offered valuable insights into how personalized diet plans are developed based on the individual needs and health conditions of patients.
This experience not only allowed students to connect their academic knowledge to real-world practice but also equipped them with important skills in nutritional assessment, patient interaction, and clinical decision-making. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, the session prepared the students for their future careers in nutrition and dietetics, empowering them to make a tangible impact in patient-centered care.
At the end of the visit, Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein thanked Dr. Harez Yasin for the valuable experience shared with the students.
