Department of Optometry and Vision Techniques Students: A Scientific Visit to Swedish Hospital in Erbil

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, the Department of Optometry and Vision Techniques at Cihan University – Erbil organized a scientific visit to Swedish Hospital in Erbil under the supervision of Dr. Anas Dhari Khamees. The objective of the visit, which involved the participation of first-year students from the aforementioned department, was to enhance the student’s practical and applied learning experience.

Upon arrival, the students were received by Mr. Musab Fikri, an optometry technician at the hospital, who provided a comprehensive overview of the work conducted within the Optometry Unit. He also gave a detailed explanation of the most advanced equipment and technologies used for diagnosing and assessing visual impairments. These included visual acuity testing devices, corneal topographers, tonometers for measuring intraocular pressure, as well as advanced digital imaging tools for retinal scanning and fundus photography.

During the visit, the students toured various sections of the Optometry Unit and observed the day-to-day operations, gaining insights into the collaborative roles of medical and technical staff in providing high-quality patient care. They also participated in interactive sessions where they asked questions and discussed the responsibilities of optometry technicians and the importance of hands-on experience in professional development.

Dr. Anas Dhari Khamees emphasized the significance of such field visits in developing students’ skills and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications, thereby better preparing them to meet the job market requirements after graduation.
