On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, third-year students from the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies at Cihan University–Erbil delivered an awareness lecture on the importance of medical imaging to ninth-grade students at Ergoshi Mixed School under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Noor Sami Omar. The students were welcomed by the school principal, Mr. Rebwar Othman.
Student Aya Mariwan Jalal opened the lecture by introducing the ninth-grade students to the field of medical imaging, outlining the role of radiographers in hospitals and their contribution to helping physicians diagnose medical conditions.
Student Sadaf Wirya Hakeem introduced the students to the main medical imaging devices, including X-ray machines, ultrasound devices, computed tomography (CT) scanners, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners. She presented illustrative images of these devices and explained how each one works in simple terms.
Student Bushra Mohammed Wsw discussed the role of medical imaging in diagnosing injuries and diseases, such as fractures and chest infections. She presented sample radiographs and explained what they reveal, demonstrating how medical imaging helps physicians determine appropriate treatments.
Student Yarin Rzgar Abdi explained the importance of early disease detection through medical imaging, noting that it can help identify many conditions before symptoms appear, thereby increasing the chances of successful treatment and recovery.
Student Nazanin Othman Hussein discussed breast cancer as an example of the importance of early detection. She explained the role of mammography in detecting small tumors at an early stage, emphasized the importance of regular screening, and encouraged the students to share this information with their family members.
Student Niga Rahim Ahmad concluded the presentations by discussing safety measures and radiation protection during medical imaging. She also highlighted the career opportunities available to graduates in the field of radiological imaging and the opportunities for further study in this specialty.
The sessions concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session during which the ninth-grade students asked questions about medical imaging devices, how they work, their safety, and educational opportunities in the field. The presenting students provided detailed answers to their questions.
