English Language Department Students Conduct Seminar on Social Media Role in Modern Communication
On January 26, 2026, fourth-stage students from the Department of English delivered an informative seminar on the role of social media in modern communication among teenagers at Brusk School for Girls. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood.
Upon arrival, Assistant Lecturer Marwa Mahmood and the students were warmly received by the school principal, Ms. Samira Mahmood Ismail, along with Ms. Vian Saber Jami. The seminar created an interactive platform that allowed university students to engage directly with school students and raise awareness of how social media shapes communication, behavior, and learning among teenagers.
During the seminar, the presenters discussed both the positive and negative impacts of social media. They emphasized its role in facilitating communication, sharing information, and developing language skills, while also addressing challenges such as excessive screen time, misinformation, and online safety concerns. The seminar also highlighted how digital awareness and girls’ education empower students, encourage responsible technology use, reduce social inequality, and contribute to sustainable social development.
The seminar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which students actively engaged with the presenters to discuss communication habits, online behavior, academic goals, and future aspirations. The session reflected the students’ enthusiasm and interest in understanding the effective and responsible use of social media in their lives.
