In Jordan: Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, Meets with Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities
During an official visit to Jordan, Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, received a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, at the headquarters.
The meeting focused on the current state of universities and explored ways to enhance relationships and share experiences to advance science and higher education across their respective countries. To this end, the participants discussed organizing a joint conference between Cihan University-Erbil and the Association of Arab Universities. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, is scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region and Cihan University-Erbil in the near future.
During the meeting, which was also attended by the Advisor to the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities, they discussed expanding the current university ranking system, which is presently limited to Arab countries, to include universities from other regions. This expansion is necessary because the Association of Arab Universities’ ranking system is on par with other global rankings. Another key topic was the enhancement of the conditions and criteria set by the Governance Council of Arab Universities. These updated standards, set to be published soon, will enable member universities to compete more rigorously in scientific fields, host scientific conferences, seminars, and workshops, and address various other critical issues facing universities today. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi suggested that Cihan University-Erbil actively participate in the expert councils of the Association of Arab Universities to make the most of its capabilities.
Finally, the two sides discussed the criteria for accrediting educational programs in universities, aiming to expand these standards to the international level and encompass all specialties, allowing universities worldwide to benefit. Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, clearly expressed his views and provided several suggestions for this initiative. At the conclusion of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi presented the logo to the Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities and thanked him for his warm welcome.
In September 1969, the first general congress of the Association of Arab Universities was held in Alexandria, with the participation of 23 Arab universities. Since then, the Association has experienced significant growth and development in both quantity and quality. Cihan University-Erbil has been a member of the Association of Arab Universities since 2011, representing one of the universities in the Kurdistan Region. Additionally, by decree number (35/421) dated 1.6.2021, Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, was appointed as a member of the Governance Council of Arab Universities in the Association of Arab Universities.
