Interior Design Engineering Department Organizes Scientific Field Visit to Sham Gallery
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific field visit to Sham Gallery for first-year students as part of the Basic Design course, under the supervision of Lab. Asst. Janain Rashid Abdul Karim.
The students were received by Mr. Hawdang Fatah Ali, who provided a detailed explanation of the company’s work and its role in supplying and designing furniture for residential and commercial interiors. He outlined the main stages of furniture production, from understanding client requirements and preparing the design concept to selecting suitable materials and completing fabrication and finishing. He also discussed various furniture styles, the importance of accurate dimensions and proportions, and how these factors affect usability and spatial harmony. In addition, he explained the materials used in furniture manufacturing, such as natural wood, engineered wood, metals, and fabrics, describing their properties and appropriate applications. He further emphasized the importance of quality control and finishing details, explaining how professionals evaluate durability, stability, and workmanship in furniture pieces.
The students had the opportunity to closely observe different furniture models, finishing techniques, and layout arrangements, which helped them better understand how design ideas are translated into real products and how aesthetic and functional aspects are balanced in interior spaces.
