Medical Laboratory Analysis Department Students Deliver Awareness Seminar at Sharistani Kajan School on Stomach Bacteria
On Tuesday, February 10, 2026, fourth-year students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil delivered an awareness seminar on stomach bacteria at Sharistani Kajan School, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Sarwan Wisman Hamad.
The students were received by the school principal, Ms. Ronak Yaqub. The activity was organized to raise health awareness by presenting key information in a simple and age-appropriate manner. The seminar introduced stomach bacteria, explained their general nature, and discussed possible routes of transmission. Preventive measures were highlighted, with emphasis on personal hygiene, regular handwashing, ensuring food and water safety, and avoiding the sharing of personal items.
The students also explained common symptoms that may be associated with infection, such as upper abdominal pain or discomfort, heartburn, nausea, bloating, frequent belching, loss of appetite, and, in some cases, unintentional weight loss. The audience was reminded that some individuals may experience no clear symptoms, while others may develop more persistent gastric inflammation. The seminar emphasized the importance of seeking medical advice if symptoms persist or recur.
In addition, the session introduced the main laboratory tests used for diagnosis, including the stool antigen test as a commonly used method, the urea breath test, which is based on detecting specific reaction products in the digestive system, and the blood antibody test, which may be used as a supportive indicator depending on the clinical situation. It was also noted that some cases may require further assessment in hospital settings according to a physician’s guidance. The activity concluded with an interactive discussion and a question-and-answer session, which helped reinforce the information and encourage student engagement.
