Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Visited Renal Ward at Gorchila Hospital

On 15 November 2022, fourth-stage students from the Nutrition and Dietetics Department of Cihan University-Erbil visited Gorchila hospital. This visit was organized by Dr. Behnaz Shahrokhisahneh, a lecturer in Clinical Practice from the aforementioned department and Dr. Dilshad Rozhbayane, a nephrologist in the Kidney Ward in Gorchila Hospital.

Nutrition and Diet therapy for patients with renal diseases is one of the main approaches to managing and controlling renal diseases. This visit provided the opportunity for the students to visit the different renal disease cases as a complementary practice to their theoretical lectures and discuss the nutrition care plan for such cases with their lecturer.

During this visit, Dr. Dilshad Rozhbayane with years of experience also shared his knowledge regarding the prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of renal diseases in different stages. Mr. Ranjbar Shahab, the team leader in the dialysis ward also explained the dialysis methods and related complications for the students. Renal diseases, especially kidney stones, are highly prevalent in Iraq, especially in Erbil. Therefore, nutritional management of these cases is critical for nutrition and dietetics students. This scientific visit was highly beneficial for the students and their future careers as dietitians.
