Optometry and Vision Techniques Department Provides Free Vision Screenings in Erbil Street Bazaar Festival
On Thursday, March 12, 2026, a group of first- and second-stage students from the Optometry and Vision Techniques Department at Cihan University – Erbil participated in the one-day Erbil Street Bazaar Festival, which was organized by Erbil Street Bazaar as part of the community activities hosted by the market. The participating students were supervised by their Head of the Department, Assistant Lecturer Omar Adil Mohammed Ali.
Through an interactive booth, the students provided community awareness services focused on maintaining eye health and vision care. They offered a range of health tips and guidance on proper eye care, methods for preventing vision problems, and highlighted the importance of regular eye examinations for early detection of vision disorders.
Additionally, the booth offered free vision screenings for visitors using the AXIS DC Auto Refractometer device. Explanations were provided regarding how the device works and its function in measuring refractive errors and identifying early vision problems, giving visitors the opportunity to learn about modern technologies used in eye examinations and to receive immediate preliminary results.
The event ended with strong engagement from visitors, many of whom expressed their appreciation and satisfaction with this health initiative, commending the department and its students for providing valuable awareness and screening services to the community. This activity reflects the university’s commitment to community engagement by translating academic knowledge into practical initiatives that benefit society.
