Prof. Dr. Amjad S. Al-Delawi, Cihan University-Erbil President, Engages in Talks on Scientific Collaboration with Qatari Consulate
In an effort to bolster scientific cooperation between Cihan University-Erbil and Qatari universities, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, the President of Cihan University-Erbil, embarked on a visit to the Qatari Consulate in the Kurdistan Region. There, he held discussions with Hussein Ali Saleh Al-Fadala, Qatar’s General Consul, focusing on enhancing academic and research partnerships.
In the meeting held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, attended by Mishaal Abdullah Al Fahida Al-Hajri, Deputy Consul in attendance, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and proceeded to highlight the university’s scientific advancements and achievements within the Kurdistan Region and Iraq to the Qatari Consulate in Kurdistan. Further into his address, Dr. Al-Delawi elaborated on the visit’s objective, emphasizing the desire to foster collaborative and scientific connections with Qatari higher education institutions. He also recounted prior efforts to enhance the relationship with Qatari universities, noting particularly the discussions held with the President of Qatar University.
Responding to the discussions, Hussein Ali Saleh Al-Fadala, Qatar’s General Consul, underscored the critical need for laying down a solid framework to advance scientific collaboration between Qatari universities and those in the Kurdistan Region. He highlighted the consulate’s key mission to facilitate scientific engagement and cultural exchanges, aiming to mutually benefit from the diverse experiences each region offers.
At a recent meeting, officials from Qatar and Cihan University-Erbil engaged in constructive dialogues to enhance scientific cooperation, with a strong focus on establishing student exchange programs and integrating Kurdistan’s universities, notably Cihan University-Erbil, into Qatar’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s recognized institutions list. The stability of the Kurdistan Region, the English medium of instruction at Cihan University-Erbil, and its affordable tuition fees were recognized as attractive factors for Qatari students seeking education abroad. The talks also ventured into the specifics of organizing student exchanges for summer training programs. Concluding the productive session, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi and the Qatari Consul exchanged university logos, symbolizing the budding partnership and mutual respect between the two institutions.
In recent developments, the President of Cihan University-Erbil held a significant meeting with the President of Qatar University in Doha, focusing on fostering scientific collaboration and coordination. Furthermore, in a strategic move to bolster these efforts, the President of Cihan University-Erbil also sought the assistance of the Iraqi Ambassador in Qatar to facilitate this initiative. In response, the Iraqi Ambassador took proactive steps by submitting an official letter to the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the past two months, setting the stage for today’s meeting, which unfolded within the ambit of these preliminary discussions.
