Seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness by the Biomedical Sciences Department
October is breast cancer awareness month to increase awareness of this disease. On October 16th, 2023, the Department of Biomedical Sciences, headed by Dr. Ali M. Hussein, organized a seminar on Breast Cancer Awareness. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Narmeen Taha Mustafa, a general and breast surgeon from PAKY Hospital.
The seminar was attended by heads of the departments, academic staff, and students from various departments of the university. Prior to the commencement of the seminar, the participants were provided with a pink ribbon that symbolizes breast cancer awareness month. Instances of the important matters covered during this seminar included risk factors, symptoms, diagnoses, treatments, and prevention of breast cancer. One of the major points emphasized by Dr. Narmeen was breast cancer does not just affect women, however, it can also affect men. She also stressed early detection of breast cancer is the key to successful treatment of this disease. During the Question-and-Answer session, the participants posed a number of questions, and they received in-depth explanations as well as insights from Dr. Narmeen’s experiences treating her patients with breast cancer.
The seminar ended with a group photo session. The aforementioned department, along with Cihan University-Erbil, was honored to have Dr. Narmeen deliver her informative and interesting seminar that day.
