A group of students from the Department of Banking and Financial Sciences/ Fourth Stage presented a symposium on capital markets on 08/11/2021 in the Academy Hall at Cihan University – Erbil to explain the concept of financial and banking sciences and the extent of the depth of this field in entering into various types of markets in the region.
The first part of the symposium included introducing the capital market as a place where buyers and sellers trade (buy/sell) securities (bonds, stocks, etc.), and the second part was about the various types of securities and how they are traded in the capital market mostly in long-term securities. While the last part included talking about the types of capital market.
The capital market includes two basic types. The primary market is the stock market or the new stock market. The company issues new securities in exchange for cash from the investor (buyer), and it deals with the trading of new issues of shares and other securities sold to investors. The second type is represented by the secondary market for the exchange of prevailing or previously issued securities between investors. Once the new securities are sold in the market, secondary markets give investors a way to resell/trade the existing securities.
The symposium contributed to providing the attendees with valuable information in the field of financial markets, especially capital markets, and explaining the importance of this type of market in the sustainability of investment projects of all kinds. It is worth to mention that the symposium was presented by Maryam Mowaffaq Mohi, Rania Sabah Mahdi and Esraa Muhammad Fakhri.
