Students of the Medical Laboratory Analysis Department Lead HPV Awareness and Blood Grouping Campaign at Nanakali Girls’ High School
As part of its ongoing community health outreach initiatives, third-year students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil conducted a field visit to Nanakali Girls’ High School on Monday, February 9, 2026. The visit aimed to raise awareness regarding vital health issues and provide practical medical screenings.
The student delegation was welcomed by the school principal, Ms. Soza Talat Ziwar. The program commenced with an in-depth session on the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The university students provided detailed scientific insights into the nature of the virus, its associated long-term health risks, and essential preventative strategies to mitigate infection rates among adolescents.
Furthermore, the session covered blood group systems and their various classifications. The importance of blood typing was highlighted within a clinical context, emphasizing its critical role in safe blood transfusions and surgical procedures.
A significant portion of the activity was dedicated to a practical workshop, where the university students performed blood grouping tests for the high school students. This hands-on experience allowed the pupils to observe laboratory analysis procedures firsthand and verify their own blood types under professional supervision. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, fostering a deeper understanding of the medical topics discussed.
