The Civil Engineering Department Students Visited the Cihan Hotel Project

On May 10, 2023, fourth-stage Civil Engineering Department students, under the supervision of Dr. Nouri Sadiq Ali, Dr. Esmail Khalife, and Dr. Ahmed Mohammad Al-Janabi, participated in the Cihan Hotel Project (Cihan Le Golan). It is a complex project that includes hotels and extensive shopping centers. One of the features of this hotel is having a sewerage water treatment system. This visit is to familiarize the students with the structure of a sewerage water treatment system in a building. This building is the second case in Erbil that uses this advanced environment-friendly system. Engineer Hersh Kakil (Project Manager) and Engineer Mahmoud Shamsuddin (Site Engineer), who were graduates of the Civil Engineering Department of Cihan University-Erbil, began to provide the necessary explanations about the desired water treatment system after welcoming the students.

The mentioned treatment system has a capacity of 150 square meters per day. In other words, it is designed for a population of about 800 people. The water treatment system consists of five parts which include screening, pre-setting tank, equalizing tank, the SBR unit, and disinfection. In each sector, a part of pollutants is reduced. The treated water can be used to irrigate the gardens of the complex. It is important to note that this system has the ability to reduce COD parameters from 300 mg/L to less than 30 mg/L and BOD from 200 mg/L to less than 10 mg/L.

Finally, the supervisors and students expressed their ‘Thank You’ message to the management of the project for their warm welcome and wished them success.
