The Completion of a Group of Charity Projects at Cihan University – Erbil within the Framework of ‘Zakat Al-Alam’ project
Within the charity project launched by Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cihan Universities under the name “Zakat Al-Alam”, the second meeting was held with all members of the faculty of Cihan University – Erbil. The meeting was to review the most important charity and humanitarian projects that have been accomplished in various scientific departments, as well as to discuss several new charitable proposals.
On Wednesday, 29/6/2022, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Cihan Universities and Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi, President of Cihan University – Erbil met all faculty members in the VIP hall to see the most important developments in the ‘Zakat of Al-Alam’ project launched by Dr. Nawzad earlier this year.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi welcomed Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker, and he assured the importance of organizing the efforts of the teaching staff at the university to serve the goals of the ‘Zakat project’, stressing that Cihan University-Erbil possesses scientific and material capabilities which enable the university to achieve several projects that serve all the parts of the community.
Later, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker talked about the importance of technological and technical change and development that the world is witnessing nowadays, stressing on the need for teachers to teach themselves as they teach students and to acquire new and modern skills and experiences in the field of technology. He also said that teachers should learn how to apply their knowledge practically in life, and that the application should serve humanity and the community. He added that knowledge and education should be available for all the members of the society regardless of their age.
Dr.Nawzad pointed out that this requires planning and organizing work from all whether individually or collectively because it will later produce positive results to serve the community. Dr. Nawzad said that the university is not a school, but rather a place for science and the application of science in life. If knowledge and science are available to everyone and if we work with the idea of charity work and helping others, time will be shortened and we will build a virtuous society such as Japan and Korea. Because of their morals and commitment to principles, these countries became one of the first developed societies. During his speech, Dr. Nawzad indicated that Cihan Universities in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah and Dohuk have the goal of creating interest in technology to serve humanity.
In his speech, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker also thanked the teaching staff for using modern technology to serve society and humanity pointing out that technology has no harm, but the harm is in how it is used.
He stressed that the teaching staff are among the best members of the society, and the time has come to serve our community, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region. From this point of view, we must start working to change and revitalize society positively towards the use of modern technology to preserve the principles of humanitarian and charity work to serve the community.
Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi indicated that one the university’s plans is the formation of a committee from the teaching staff, consisting of Dr. Abdul-Sattar, Dr. Hawkar, Assistant Lecturer Bushra and the Assistant Lecturer Honer to work on the management and organization of charity projects carried out by Cihan University – Erbil within the framework of the ‘Zakat Al-Alam’ project.
During the meeting, a number of departments heads and teachers talked about a group of charitable and humanitarian works they presented to the community with the support of the Presidency of Cihan University – Erbil and with the participation of students.
The head of the Law Department, Dr. Omar Zubair, talked about their various charity activities, such as providing legal awareness courses for many educational institutions. Dr. Nawzad assured the importance of law for the community and said that there should be a kind of cooperation between Law department and the department of International Relations at Cihan University-Erbil to create a booklet to be distributed free of charge or to prepare a television program on how to teach important legal materials and Laws, as well as establishing a legal website on social networking sites that is specialized in legal affairs to define laws and regulations.
The head of the Community Health Department, Dr. Sirwan, added that a number of faculty members and students in the Department of Community Health participated in a group of humanitarian works that they presented to various groups of society, such as health awareness campaigns on several topics such as receiving the Corona virus vaccine, as well as visits to specialized health centers for children with cancer providing financial aid and gifts to them.
A number of teachers mentioned several suggestions that would serve the community, including projects to address the problem of desertification. Dr. Nawzad pointed out the necessity for the university to participate in solving this problem through the students’ participation in implementing campaigns to plant trees and raise awareness regarding water consumption.
The head of the Computer Science Department, A.L. Muhammad Bajalan, mentioned a set of activities that have been accomplished over the past period, including donations to the poor people, as well as free computer courses for many government institutions and schools.
Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker emphasized that a person can be creative and he added that the teaching staff at Cihan University – Erbil have expertise and skills, and there is financial support for all projects presented by students and teachers, as Cihan Bank provides financial loans for students’ projects that they want to implement after graduation.
Dr. Saleh Zebari, head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, pointed out charity projects that have been accomplished with the participation of students, such as participating in awareness programs on television stations and providing health and nutrition programs.
Among the scientific departments that Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi praised for their effective role and projects in community service was the Department of Physiotherapy, which recently provided several medical devices to the elderly home in Erbil, as well as providing specialized free courses for the medical staff in the elderly home on how to use these devices and preparing medical awareness brochures and distributing them free of charge to all members of society.
Subsequently, other projects presented by members of the teaching staff were discussed for the purpose of organizing and preparing for them and emphasizing that there would be a greater investment in the available capabilities at the university, especially the role of students in completing these activities in the service of the community.
Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi stressed the importance of the university being a source of community service and providing humanitarian and charitable benefits to the community on an ongoing basis. He mentioned that among the university’s projects in the coming days is that all the university’s medical laboratories will be open for conducting laboratory tests for citizens free of charge.
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Nawzad Yahya Bajker and Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Dalawi thanked and appreciated the heads of departments and teachers for their achievements and charitable and humanitarian activities throughout this year, hoping that there would be more charity projects aimed at achieving various benefits for the community.
