THE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING, CIHAN UNIVERSITY-ERBIL ORGANIZED A VISIT TO CAPITAL TOWER

On 15 March 2022, the Department of Civil Engineering, Cihan University-Erbil organized a visit to Capital Tower which involved a group of civil engineering students under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Noori Sadiq Ali. The objective of the visit was to get the students familiar with the Capital Tower construction process. Capital Tower has one of the largest projects consisting of 38 commercial and residential floors.

Upon arriving at Capital Tower, an executive engineer warmly welcomed Assistant Professor Dr. Noori Sadiq Al and the students. During the visit, the executive engineer explained the method of excavation and pouring the foundations into the four basement floors. This includes excavating, pouring the foundations from the ground floor, offices, and shops. The students were also exposed to various types of foundations, processes of drilling, and tests of the soil. In addition to that, the students were also exposed to various information related to the process of foundation, construction design in terms of the type of iron used, and how to examine the steel bars according to Iraqi specifications.

The students participated actively in questions and answering sessions related to structural design, specifications used in implementation, and cost of excavation of the foundations. At the end of the visit, Assistant Professor Dr. Noori Sadiq Ali thanked the executive engineers for their support and initiatives presented to the students.
