The Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies Organized a Scientific Visit to Erbil International Hospital
On Monday (April 22nd, 2024), the first-stage students in the Radiological Imaging Technologies Department at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Noor Sami Omar, held a scientific visit to Erbil International Hospital. The objectives of this visit were to enhance students’ understanding of medical imaging techniques and provide an opportunity for them to observe the principles of working with an Electrocardiograph (ECG) device.

The students were welcomed by Mr. Navid Abdulkarimi, a specialist in radiography. They were divided into groups and had the opportunity to observe the techniques of these devices. Hands-on learning is crucial in understanding ECG principles. Students practiced placing electrodes on simulated models and familiarized themselves with electrode placement and proper technique. They observed and interpreted ECG recordings, identifying normal and abnormal patterns under the guidance of instructors. Additionally, they observed two patients undergoing ECG procedures and witnessed how the radiographer positioned the electrodes on specific areas of the chest, hands, and legs.
Subsequently, students practiced using ultrasound machines, learning how to adjust settings such as frequency and depth to optimize image quality. They gained proficiency in transducer manipulation and probe placement, honing their skills in obtaining clear and accurate images of various anatomical structures. Furthermore, students learned about the anatomy and physiology relevant to ultrasound imaging, understanding how different tissues interact with ultrasound waves and produce characteristic echoes.
At the end of the trip, the students were excited to be involved in such an activity.
