The President of Cihan University-Erbil Opens the Second Exhibition of Art Paintings by Kawergosk Camp Artists
The Department of Business Administration, in collaboration with the United Nations TDH organization, organized an art exhibition showcasing paintings created by artists from the Kawergosk Syrian refugee camp on November 13, 2023. The event took place at the College of Administrative and Financial Sciences at Cihan University in Erbil.
The opening of the art gallery was officiated by Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Dalawi, the President of Cihan University – Erbil. During his address, he directly engaged with those overseeing the talents and expressed a warm reception towards potential future collaborations in both humanitarian and artistic endeavors. He underscored the importance of ongoing support for these artists and emphasized the crucial need to integrate them into the wider community, despite the challenging living conditions they have endured for several years.
Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Dalawi, the President of Cihan University – Erbil, inaugurated the art gallery and directly engaged with the individuals responsible for the showcased talents. He expressed readiness for future collaboration in humanitarian and artistic endeavors, extending a welcoming gesture. Emphasizing the crucial need to support these talents, he underscored the importance of integrating refugee artists into the community despite the challenging living conditions they have endured for an extended period.
The university president, along with professors from both the college and university, embarked on a comprehensive tour of all the featured artworks. Throughout the tour, he engaged in a personal conversation with Ms. Shahnaz Mohieddin Shaheen, the leader of the community center in the Kawergosk camp. The discussion revolved around strategies to support these talents given the challenging circumstances they face. The president commended the efforts invested in nurturing their artistic abilities.
Before the art exhibition, the United Nations TDH organization conducted multiple visits to Cihan University – Erbil. These visits involved several meetings between Dr. Hawkar Qasim Birdawod, the Head of the Department of Business Administration, and Assistant Lecturer Ms. Bushra Ali. The discussions focused on planning and successfully coordinating the art gallery for paintings. Notably, the gallery featured 95 paintings contributed by 12 artists and an additional 11 artists with special needs. The Business Administration Department’s art exhibition for the artists of the Kawergosk camp marks the second such event. The preceding exhibition took place in 2021 and was conducted in collaboration with the United Nations SWEDO organization.
