With the beginning of the second semester for the academic year 2020-2021, department of Nutrition arranged a series of visits to a number of hospitals inside Erbil including ‘Medecano and Par’ under the supervision of Ms. Raghad Al-Gomarad.
The students had the chance to know the nature of the nutritionist’s job and the diet system in the hospitals and health centers. The students observed the methods of receiving and preserving the foodstuffs involved in preparing meals in hospitals. Moreover, the extent to which quality standards are applied in the kitchens and by the workers. In addition to how food is provided and distributed for the patients and hospital employees, and the standards of healthy and therapeutic eating for each patient.
The obstacles, positives and negatives of this job were discussed with kitchen managers and hospital officials. The discussion was about how to develop the level of food services in the governorate hospitals for improving the level of general health services. The aim was to clarify the picture for the students to develop their problem solving skills as an important step in preparing for the labor market.
