On Thursday, November 5, 2026, two students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University–Erbil participated in a health programme broadcast by Rudaw Media Network under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Nabaz Khalil.
The participating students were Gailan Waisi Rashid, a second-stage student, and Dedar Shahab Ahmed, a fourth-stage student. They appeared on the “Dr. Aras” programme, hosted by Dr. Aras Bradosty, which focused on the nutritional value of bread, its composition, and its role in a healthy and balanced diet.
During the programme, Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Nabaz Khalil and the students contributed to the scientific discussion by sharing their academic knowledge and providing nutritional information. They addressed the nutritional components of bread, including carbohydrates, proteins, dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals. They also discussed differences among bread varieties, the ingredients used in their preparation, and how these factors affect their nutritional quality and health benefits.
The discussion further examined whether bread is a healthy dietary choice, highlighting how its nutritional value depends on the type of flour, preparation methods, portion sizes, and individual dietary requirements. Particular attention was given to the differences between whole-grain and refined-flour bread, especially in terms of dietary fibre and nutrient content. The speakers also explained how choosing suitable bread varieties can contribute to a balanced diet.
In addition, the students shared information about healthy eating habits and the importance of understanding food composition when making daily dietary choices. The programme addressed common misconceptions about bread consumption and emphasized the importance of moderation and dietary balance in meeting individual nutritional needs. This provided the audience with practical insights into making informed food choices in everyday life.
