A student from Cihan University- Erbil in Baghdad took part in a workshop designed for individuals with disabilities.
A workshop aimed at promoting the social integration of individuals with special needs was recently held in Baghdad, organized by UNICEF in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
The workshop was attended by various specialists and experts from different fields, including Hajar Kanaan, a student in the Physiotherapy Department at Cihan University-Erbil. This workshop provided a safe space for individuals with special needs to participate in educational, cultural, sports, and leisure activities alongside their peers, fostering a sense of inclusion and respect for their rights.
According to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, individuals with disabilities in the Arab world constitute one of the largest and most marginalized social groups. They face higher risks of health issues and poverty compared to other groups due to limited access to education, social protection, and employment opportunities.
