Checking Food Labeling and Food Additives of Different Types of Food Products by First Year Students of Nutrition and Dietetics Department
On 8th of January 2022, first year students in Nutrition and Dietetics department and under the supervision of Dr. Salih Zebari held an activity of checking food labeling of different types of food products (local and exported). Food Labeling is important for consumers to know what they are buying and what they are going to eat or drink. The students also checked the alternative of food labeling which is the new labeling system called bar code nutritional food labeling that helps people make healthy choices
On the other hand the students also checked the ‘Food additives’ that are used for different purposes in the food industry. Coloring agents, antioxidants, flavoring, sweeteners, acidity regulator, thickeners, stabilizers, and these additives are regulated according to the EU with an E number such as E100, E 200 ect. Such an activity is a practical exercise for junior students to help them in their study.
