Cihan University-Erbil Addresses the Dangers and Effects of Drug Use on Students
In an effort to educate students about the risks of drug use and promote prevention, Cihan University-Erbil, under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Amjad Sabir Al-Delawi, President of the University, collaborated with the Humanitarian Aid Organization to organize an awareness campaign for its students.
This activity, held on Monday, November 25, 2024, in the university’s conference hall, was attended by Associate Professor Dr. Abdul Sattar Karim, Assistant to the President for Administrative and Students Affairs, along with the heads of several scientific departments, faculty members, and students from various departments and levels. In the beginning, a brief discussion was held on the various types of drugs and their harmful effects. afterwards, the Head of the Organization for Humanitarian Cooperation (OEO) enlightened the purpose of organizing the seminar and provided an overview of the types of drugs and possible solutions for prevention and rehabilitation.
On another instance of the workshop, Giulia Crismaw and Gregory Christensen, volunteers from the Organization for Humanitarian Cooperation (OHC), delivered a joint presentation titled “The Truth About Drugs.” At the start of their talk, they provided a brief overview of their organization’s activities in various countries around the world. Afterwards, they discussed, from a scientific perspective, the numerous harms faced by drug users, particularly in the areas of health, mental well-being, social relationships, and economic stability.
Additionally, they offered students several practical instructions on how to avoid drug use. The speakers emphasized that global experiences have shown that drug dealers employ various strategies to entangle individuals into addiction. Therefore, they highlighted the importance of raising awareness as a key measure to combat this deadly epidemic.
At the end of the event, students shared a variety of questions and opinions about drugs, which were addressed by the speakers, along with responding to the needs and concerns of both the students and the audience.
