Cihan University-Erbil President Advocates for Students’ Knowledge and Scientific Growth under the Emblem of the Kurdistan Flag
Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, emphasized the significance of the Kurdistan Flag Day as an opportunity for students to cultivate their passion for their respective fields of study and contribute to the nation’s growth and development through their commitment to science and education.
At Cihan University-Erbil, as with other academic institutions, a special celebration took place on December 17, 2023, in honor of the Kurdistan Flag Day. The event, graced by the presence of the President of Cihan University-Erbil, Deans, Heads of Departments, lecturers, employees, and students.
On that occasion, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, delivered a speech. Initially extending congratulations to guests, lecturers, and students for the Kurdistan Flag Day, he delved into the historical significance of the day. He highlighted the symbolic importance of the flag being raised for the first time in Mahabad in 1945, leading to the Kurdistan Parliament designating this day as a national holiday. Expressing honor and delight, he conveyed Cihan University-Erbil’s commitment to annually revive and celebrate this important national holiday.
In another part of his address, the President of Cihan University-Erbil reflected on the role students play in the current stage of the struggle. “we are celebrating this event under the symbol of our flag—a symbol earned through the sacrifice of martyrs and the endeavors of our heroes,” he remarked. He stressed the duty of all, particularly students, to remember this historic day and emphasized the important role of education and knowledge in nation-building. He underscored that economic infrastructure and human capital are fundamental to the creation of any nation, and universities play a crucial role in fostering human capital. Emphasizing the university’s vital role as an institution nurturing education and human capital, he addressed the students, recognizing them as the future of the country. Encouraging them to develop a profound passion for their majors and expertise, he stressed their role in contributing to the nation’s progress. The President stated, “We acknowledge the diverse aspirations of our people, above all is the complete independence. However, mere rhetoric is insufficient; it requires practical implementation through the avenues of science and knowledge.” Referring to the students as the guardians of this knowledge, he depicted them as the intellectual Peshmergas. Consequently, Cihan University-Erbil has consistently provided comprehensive opportunities for students to engage in self-education and self-empowerment.
Discussing the academic achievements of Cihan University-Erbil, Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi expressed pride in the University’s top rankings globally among both private and public universities in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. He credited these accomplishments to the joint efforts of lecturers and students and pledged to leverage these achievements for the benefit of the Kurdish people, envisioning a bright future for Kurdistan. He emphasized that Cihan University-Erbil will utilize all these accomplishments for the benefit of the Kurdish people and strive to shape a promising future for Kurdistan. Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi concluded his speech by urging students to continually commemorate the Kurdistan Flag Day and to raise the Kurdistan Flag as a symbol of their commitment to building a brighter future.
The ceremony included the symbolic hoisting of the Kurdistan flag by Prof. Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil and further festivities where students celebrated in traditional Kurdish attire, engaging in dances and songs.
