Department of Optometry and Vision Techniques Students Visit Istanbul Optic Center

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, third-stage students from the Department of Optometry and Vision Techniques at Cihan University-Erbil visited Istanbul Optic Center in Erbil as part of a scientific visit organised under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Hataw Najmaddin.

Upon arrival, the students were received by optics technician Mr. Hawkar Ahmed, who guided them on a tour of the center and introduced them to the work carried out in vision examination clinics. During the visit, the students received hands-on training in using the automatic lensmeter to determine the optical power of corrective lenses accurately.

They also trained on the autorefractor, a device used to measure the eye’s refractive power and provide an initial assessment of refractive errors. Under the direct supervision of Hawkar Ahmed, the students observed the operating procedures of both devices, examined the results displayed on their screens, and asked questions to deepen their understanding of their practical applications.

Mr. Hawkar Ahmed highlighted the importance of such scientific visits in providing students with valuable opportunities to gain practical experience with the equipment commonly used in optical centers.

He explained that hands-on training strengthens students’ understanding of technical procedures that may be difficult to grasp through classroom instruction alone and helps prepare them for their future careers.
