On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, second-year students from the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies at Cihan University–Erbil delivered a breast cancer awareness lecture at Al-Maarifa Private Schools under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Asmaa Amin Ghareeb. The students were received by Dr. Zainab Al-Saffar, General Supervisor of Al-Maarifa Schools, and Mrs. Hind Hasan Muhammad, Academic Director.
Student Nawras Ghanim Obaid opened the lecture by introducing the pupils to breast cancer, explaining its main symptoms and prevalence, and emphasizing the importance of raising awareness of the disease among women.
Next, student Rania Hasan Muhammad discussed methods of early detection, explaining the differences between breast self-examination, clinical breast examination, and mammography. She also emphasized the importance of regular screening and seeking medical advice promptly whenever unusual changes are noticed.
Student Hajar Jumaa Ismail concluded the presentations by discussing breast cancer prevention and risk factors related to lifestyle, nutrition, and physical activity. She also highlighted the role of radiological imaging in diagnosing and monitoring the disease, explaining how mammography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) help detect tumors and determine their size and location.
The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which the pupils asked questions about breast cancer symptoms, the appropriate age to begin regular screening, and the procedures involved in radiological imaging. The presenting students provided detailed answers, helping the pupils gain a better understanding of breast cancer awareness, early detection, and diagnostic imaging.
