On Thursday, November 5, 2026, third-stage students from the Department of English at Cihan University–Erbil conducted an educational English language activity at Shyaw Primary School under the supervision of Lecturer Pola Tahseen Mohammad, Head of the Department.
Upon their arrival, the university students were warmly received by Mr. Khider Abdulla Ahmed. The session began with Mohamad Ahmed, who introduced the topic of nouns and explained common nouns and concrete nouns with examples.
Following his presentation, Tara Abdulkhaleq Hassan explained proper nouns and abstract nouns, while Imad Issa Shawlat presented collective nouns and compound nouns. Each student provided examples to help the school students understand the different types of nouns.
To reinforce the children’s understanding, the university students organized an interactive storytelling and noun identification competition. The school students were divided into three groups, each led by one of the university students: Group A, led by Mohamad Ahmed; Group B, led by Tara Abdulkhaleq Hassan; and Group C, led by Imad Issa Shawlat.
During the competition, each university student read a short story aloud to their respective group. The school students listened carefully and identified the common, concrete, proper, abstract, collective, and compound nouns mentioned in the stories.
They then wrote the identified nouns on the board. This activity encouraged active listening, teamwork, vocabulary development, and a better understanding of English grammar.
At the end of the competition, Group A, led by Mohamad Ahmed, achieved the highest score and secured first place. Group C, led by Imad Issa Shawlat, came in second place, while Group B, led by Tara Abdulkhaleq Hassan, secured third place.
