As part of a series of scientific field activities supervised by Lecturer Dashne Abdullah Saeed, third-stage students of the General Education Department visited the specialized Breast Cancer Center on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. During the visit, the students were received by specialist physician Dr. Samya Jalal, who was interviewed regarding breast cancer.
During the interview, Dr. Samya Jalal answered three main scientific questions posed by the students. Regarding the first question, she explained that the most prominent symptoms of breast cancer include a lump or tumor in the breast or underarm area, changes in the size or shape of the breast, and irregularities on the skin’s surface.
Regarding early detection methods and personal prevention, the specialist physician emphasized performing monthly self-examinations at home. She also noted that individuals with a family history of the disease should visit a specialist physician once or twice a year, and those under the age of 30 should undergo medical check-ups every 2 to 3 years. In another part of the discussion, advice was given to the community on maintaining a healthy weight, completely avoiding smoking and alcohol, refraining from using hormone medications without a doctor’s guidance, and encouraging natural breastfeeding.
The students asked further questions and had discussions regarding raising health awareness. The students later expressed gratitude to Dr. Samya Jalal for her time and valuable information provided. Finally, they took a group photo together.
