The Computer Science Department Organized a Scientific Visit to the Allai Newroz Telecom Company

On May 10, 2023 (Tuesday), the Computer Science Department of Cihan University – Erbil organized a scientific visit for its fourth-year students to the Allai Newroz Telecom Company in Erbil. The visit was supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Reem Jafar Ismail.

The students were welcomed by Sema Salam Yaqoob, a Legal Officer, who was a graduate of the Computer Science Department from Cihan University- Erbil in the academic year 2018-2019. After being welcomed and introduced to the staff at that company, an overview of the company’s founding was presented. This is particularly, as it was the first telecommunications company in Kurdistan and is still the backbone of connecting cities and regions in Kurdistan. The company aims to develop its services for subscribers and promises to launch new developments in the near future related to connection speed and ensuring network continuity, especially when traveling between cities in vehicles.

During the visit, the students were also introduced to how networks are designed in different areas and cities, the equipment needed, the difficulties that network engineers face in meeting the requirements of subscribers, especially in remote areas outside the city center, and how to rectify them. Advanced network technologies using high-speed fiber-optic networks for transmission were also discussed and compared to other less efficient communication technologies.

The visit included a tour of the company’s departments such as customer service and human resources. Finally, the students were directed to visit the company’s website to know about the job opportunities offered by that company and to apply for them in the future after graduation.
