The Department of Law Organized a Joint Seminar with the People’s Aid Organization
On October 30, 2023, the Department of Law, in partnership with the People’s Aid Organization, presented a project adopted by the organization related to promoting the right to a fair trial, improving detention conditions, and abolishing torture.
The seminar was divided into several segments. In the first segment, Dr. Omar Zuhair Sheikhani, presented various topics related to juveniles, including the definition of juveniles in accordance with the Juvenile Law and the most important rights outlined in the law. He also explained the legal provisions pertaining to the juvenile’s right to a fair trial at all investigation and trial stages.
In another aspect of the seminar, Mrs. Valentine presented the organization’s representation in the second segment, which included an explanation of the organization’s project. This project focuses on the juvenile’s right to a fair trial, improving the conditions of juvenile detention, and preventing torture. Mrs. Valentine also referred to international and comparative laws that govern the rights of juveniles during investigations and trials, comparing them with the laws currently in effect in Iraq and the Kurdistan region.
At the end of the seminar, students were given the opportunity to share their thoughts, ask questions about the topic, and provide their most important suggestions on how to ensure a fair trial for juveniles.
