Biology Department in Cihan University Erbil considered one of the most important and distinctive departments in the university, due to its importance to society.

The Biology department has the finest elite academic staff that is up to date with the latest scientific breakthrough. The Department of Biology also contains the best laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to help the students in their future endeavor and to help them to be productive members of society. The Department of Biology organizes annual activities with the participation of students and academic staff.  

The students of the department have participated in Classifying Plants in Sami Abdul-Rahman Park with members of academic staff.The activates have not stopped till now there, the department also has organized with coordination with Y-PEER organization a health awareness campaign under the title “The role of health outreach in prevention diseases”

With the help of the campaign aimed at explaining the importance of health awareness and the prevention ways of sexually transmitted diseases.

The students also participated in World Diabetes Day in a social activity in which they explained to the citizens the danger of diabetes and how it could be avoided by taking several simple steps: keeping weight under control, exercising more, eating a healthy diet, and not smoking.

Research-wise our graduate students participated in the 3rd International Conference of the College of Medicine – Hawler with their paper under the title “The Effect of Date Palm Pollen Grain on Humans Sexual Hormones”

Also Biology department head in Cihan University Dr.Hadi Al-Saki participated in research entitled “evaluation of b1 gene G529 repeated elements as PCR targets for diagnosis of toxoplasmosis in pregnant and aborted women in Erbil” in the international symposium which was held in Berlin
