Biomedical Sciences Department Students Raise Awareness of Hand Hygiene on Global Handwashing Day

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, fourth-year students from the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cihan University–Erbil held a health awareness activity at Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil to mark Global Handwashing Day. The activity was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hero Ismael Mohammed.

During the activity, students Mihraban Sdiq Rahman, Sundus Hewa Qarani, and Khawla Hashim Aziz met with park visitors, distributed educational brochures and wet wipes, and explained the importance of proper handwashing in preventing infections.

Additionally, they discussed how microorganisms can contaminate hands and later spread from person to person, potentially causing disease. This was followed by providing instructions on the correct way to wash hands with soap and water for at least 30 seconds, emphasizing the importance of regular handwashing, particularly before eating and after using the restroom.

Through this initiative, they highlighted the importance of public health awareness and the vital role university students must play in promoting simple but effective practices that help protect individuals and the wider community from infectious diseases.
