Cihan University-Erbil Hosts International Workshop on the Role of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Laboratory Systems
Under the auspices and in the presence of Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi, President of Cihan University-Erbil, the Departments of “Medical Laboratory Analysis” and “Community Health Nursing” organized an international workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence in Modern Healthcare and Laboratory Systems” on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the University’s VIP Hall.
The event was attended by the university’s vice presidents, deans, heads of departments, and a large number of faculty members. In his opening address, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi highlighted Cihan University-Erbil’s pioneering role in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, stating: “We were the first university nationwide to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a practical course within the first-year curriculum.” He emphasized that the university aims to translate academic outcomes into tangible projects in collaboration with external institutions.
Furthermore, Professor Dr. Amjad Saber Al-Delawi announced that the university would provide two advanced robots to the departments of “Software Engineering & Informatics” and “Computer Science” this year. He noted that the establishment of the Cyber Security and AI departments was a strategic, forward-looking step to meet the future needs of government institutions, such as the Ministry of Interior. The President reaffirmed that the students remain the university’s primary focus and announced the university’s upcoming participation in the international “University Leaders” conference in Poland next month, which will focus on AI in university administration.
The workshop featured specialized sessions from local and international experts. Assistant Lecturer Sally Khalil Baqir discussed the transformation of laboratory work through AI. In a significant international contribution, Ms. Lizzy Lv, Product Manager at the global firm Snibe (China), delivered a technical presentation on “AI in the Development of Laboratory Equipment.” She provided an in-depth analysis of automated systems such as Snibe Xlab and T8, illustrating how they enhance diagnostic precision and minimize human error. Additionally, Dr. Firas Ismail discussed the role of AI in promoting community health and epidemic prevention. The workshop concluded with an interactive discussion, underscoring Cihan University-Erbil’s strategic commitment to collaborating with global technology hubs to prepare students for the AI-driven future labor market.
