Cihan University-Erbil Lecturer Appointed as General Secretary of the Kurdistan Minifootball Federation

In a significant development for the sports movement in the Kurdistan Region, the Kurdistan Minifootball Federation has been officially established.

During a ceremony held on Wednesday, April 29, 2025, at the Directorate General of Sport in Kurdistan, Ms. Azhin Hamadamin Qadir, a faculty member at the Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at Cihan University-Erbil, was officially appointed as the General Secretary of the federation. This appointment serves as a testament to the trust placed by sports authorities in the academic and administrative excellence of Cihan University-Erbil’s staff.

This national achievement is a direct result of the modern infrastructure and the successful hosting of the WMF Women’s Minifootball World Cup at the Cihan University-Erbil campus in September last year. This success provided the foundation for the Directorate General of Sport to formally apply to the World Minifootball Federation for official membership. Consequently, at a press conference during the ceremony, the World Minifootball Federation announced that it had officially accepted the Kurdistan Region as an independent member, allowing it to compete in international tournaments under its own name and flag.

The active involvement of Cihan University-Erbil’s academic staff in the leadership of sports federations aligns with the University’s strategy to enhance the Kurdistan Region’s presence on the global stage.
