Cihan University-Erbil Students Secure Qualification to the Second Stage of the Regional Universities Table Tennis Championship

Sulaimani — During the first day of the Regional Universities Table Tennis Championship, hosted by the University of Sulaimani, the Cihan University-Erbil team secured a place in the tournament’s second stage.

The championship features a high level of technical competition and follows a singles format. During the opening technical meeting, all participating players were divided into 10 groups, each comprising four players who competed in three matches. According to the tournament regulations, the top two players from each group advance directly to the second stage.

Representing Cihan University-Erbil, student Mawlood Asaad Ali delivered an impressive performance. He won his opening match against a student from Halabja University with a score of 3–1, followed by a closely contested 3–2 victory against a student from Komar University, securing his qualification for the next stage.

Although all Cihan University-Erbil team members demonstrated strong performances against their university counterparts, the highly competitive nature of the championship resulted in only one team member qualifying for the second stage.

On the second day, the tournament will move to a single-elimination format, with Cihan University-Erbil’s qualifier scheduled to face a student from Charmo University.
