On Monday, October 19, 2026, second-year students from the Department of Radiological Imaging Technologies at Cihan University–Erbil delivered a breast cancer awareness at Al-Nahrain Preparatory School for Girls under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Asmaa Amin Ghareeb. Upon arrival, the students were received by the school principal, Mrs. Josephine Istifan Mansour.
The session began with Sarah Salah Naeem introducing the students to breast cancer, outlining its main symptoms and prevalence, and emphasising the importance of raising awareness of the disease among women.
Next, Maryam Sabah Hameed discussed methods of early detection, explaining the differences between breast self-examination, clinical breast examination, and mammography. She also highlighted the importance of appropriate screening and seeking medical advice promptly when any unusual changes are noticed.
Duaa Saif Nabeel then discussed ways to reduce the risk of breast cancer, reviewing relevant risk factors associated with lifestyle, nutrition, and physical activity. She explained how adopting healthy habits can contribute to reducing the risk of developing the disease.
Finally, Zainab Sahib Falih highlighted the role of radiological imaging in diagnosing and monitoring breast cancer. She explained how mammography, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can help detect abnormalities and provide information about the size and location of tumours.
The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session in which the schoolgirls asked questions about breast cancer symptoms, the appropriate age to begin screening, and the procedures involved in radiological imaging. The presenting students provided detailed answers, helping the participants gain a better understanding of breast cancer awareness, early detection, and the role of medical imaging in diagnosis.
