Law Department Students Conduct an Awareness Seminar on the Dangers of Narcotics

On Monday, October 19, 2026, second- and third-year students from the Department of Law at Cihan University–Erbil visited Shaheed Kochar High School for Boys as part of their social awareness activities. During the visit, they delivered a seminar entitled “The Law on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances in the Kurdistan Region” to more than 100 students.

The visit under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Saman Hasan Ali,  Upon arrival, the university students were warmly received by the school principal, Mr. Samir Rustam, and social researcher Mr. Zhikaf Mamand. During the seminar, four law students Ahmed  Mustafa, Muhammad Shukur, Fatima Abubakar, and Hawzhin Mohsin discussed various legal and social aspects of narcotics and psychotropic substances.

First, Ahmed Mustafa explained the background to the enactment of the law and outlined the penalties stipulated in its articles for drug users and traffickers. Next, Fatima Abubakar discussed the broader impact of narcotics on society. Hawzhin Mohsin then addressed the psychological, health, and financial consequences of drug addiction for individuals. Finally, Muhammad Shukur highlighted the roles of families, schools, and universities in raising awareness and encouraging young people to stay away from narcotics.

The seminar aimed to strengthen students’ legal and social awareness of the dangers of narcotics and highlight the importance of prevention. It also emphasised the role of educational institutions and families in protecting young people from substance abuse and promoting a safer educational environment.
